The Mississippi College men's basketball team opened Gulf South Conference play with a 69-66 overtime win over West Alabama on Saturday afternoon in A.E. Wood Coliseum. The Choctaws improved to 3-2 with a 1-0 mark in GSC play, while the Tigers fell to 4-2 with an 0-1 league record.

Mississippi College junior Alejandro Chavarria and freshman Joshua Davies have been named to the 2019 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) Men's Soccer All-South Region Teams, it was announced on Wednesday (Nov. 20) after a vote by the region's Sports Information Directors.

- Seniors Lauren Kate Carter, Scarlett Hodges, Gabby Kayser and Katie Taylor have been named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, it was announced on Thursday (Nov. 7). Carter (Tupelo, Miss.) has posted a perfect 4.00 grade-point-average in Kinesiology and is planning on attending medical school. The four-year player has started 13-of-14 games with three goals scored and an assist, including the game-winner against Union. Hodges (Madison, Miss.) has posted a 3.90 grade-point-average in Accounting. The three-year defensive starter has helped pace a defense that has allowed more than one goal just once this season, and has held three opponents to no shots on goal for an entire match. Kayser (Troy, Ill.) has posted a 3.50 grade-point-average in Kinesiology. She has posted a 0.64 goals against average with six shutouts over a 13-1 season thus far for the Lady Choctaws. Taylor (Tupelo, Miss.) has posted a 3.76 grade-point average in Interdisciplinary Studies. She leads the Gulf South Conference in goals per game, points per game and game-winning goals. She also ranks 2nd in assists, total goals and total points.

The Mississippi College women's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with an 88-69 win over in-state foe Belhaven University behind a pair of double-doubles from Moriah Hurst and Coco Hobson. Hobson and Hurst shared the team-lead in scoring with 18 points each. Hobson tied a career-high with a roster-best 18 rebounds while Hurst pulled down 12. Zariah Matthews equaled the duo with 18 points. Four Lady Choctaws scored in double figures in the outing as Mikeba Jones chimed in a season-best 16.

The Mississippi College volleyball team posted its second straight, Gulf South Conference sweep and the third out of the last four outings as it revenged an earlier season setback to Auburn University at Montgomery on Friday, Nov. 8 inside A.E. Wood Colisem. Jamie Boros led the Choctaws with 12 kills on the evening. Lexie Laurendine and Levi Lennard each notched double-digit assists in the contest. Laurendine led the way with 15 while Lennard poured in 14. Defensively, Julia Martinrecorded a roster-best 17 digs while Kate Bass posted four solo blocks. AUM cut the deficit to 11-8, but a second 5-0 expanded the lead and the Choctaws rode the scoring swings to a 22-12 lead and finally a 25-18 win. - MC grabbed an 18-13 lead in the second set and closed the set out scoring seven of the final eight points en route to a 25-14. - Tied 10-10, the Choctaws went on a 6-0 run to grab a 16-10 advantage. MC ended the set on a 5-1 run to clinch the match 25-17. INSIDE THE BOX - The win marked the third in the series for the Choctaws and snapped a two-match skid to the Warhawks. - The sweep is the sixth this season for the Navy and Gold and fourth in conference play. - Boros collected her team-best 21st match with double-digit kills and 36th of her career.

The Mississippi College women's cross country team concluded the 2019 season with a ninth place finish at the NCAA Division South Regional on Saturday, Nov. 9. Madeline Campbell led the Lady Choctaws with a time of 23:20.06 in 29th place. McKenzie Hargrove came in 39th with a time of 23:34.31 with Alexis Dunn in 47th with a time of 24:01.48. Emma Langley finished 55th with a time of 24:17.16. Ava Dickerson placed 67th with a time of 24:46.55 while Rachel Faulk posted a time of 26:17.66 (97th) and Isabella Lovvorn added a time of 26:51.68 (105th). Lee University took home top team honors followed by the University of Tampa and Saint Leo University.

The Mississippi College women's soccer team finished the regular season with a 2-0 victory at West Florida on Saturday afternoon, capping a perfect 12-0 campaign in Gulf South Conference play in 2019. The #5 Lady Choctaws (14-1, 12-0 GSC) have now won a school-record 14 consecutive games and will head into next week's GSC Tournament as the #1 seed.

The Mississippi College volleyball went to five sets for the second time this season against Gulf South Conference power, West Florida, but came up on the short end of the stick as the Argos spoil Senior Day.

Evan Del Rio finished fifth overall as the Mississippi College men's cross country team finished fifth at the NCAA Division II South Regional in Lakeland, Fla., on Saturday, Nov. 9. Del Rio's finish qualifies him for the NCAA Division II National Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Huntsville, Texas, native turned in a time of 32:26.37 in the 10K race. The team finish placed the Navy and Gold ahead of their regional ranking. Gabe Poulin finished 20th with a time of 33:02.46 while Alec Beers was 47th with a time of 34:17.17. Patrick Zakary turned in a time of 34:58.70 and finished 72nd. Osiel Moreno finished 87th with a time of 35:24.97. Jake Russell wrapped up the Choctaw runners with a time of 36:50.40 (115th). The University of Alabama in Huntsville took home top team honors followed by Lee University and Saint Leo University.

The Mississippi College football team could not withstand another tough second half in a 35-21 loss to West Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. The Choctaws fell to 4-5 on the season with a 3-4 Gulf South Conference mark, while the Tigers improved to 6-4 and are 3-4 in league play.

Trailing by as many as 18 points in the first half, the Mississippi College men's basketball team cut the deficit down to 51-50 in the final minutes, but Blue Mountain held on for a 62-54 win on Saturday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum. The Choctaws (1-1) held the Toppers to just 32% shooting in the second half, but MC turned the ball over 20 times in the defeat.

Sophomores Evan Del Rio and Lexie Laurendine have been named Mississippi College Merit Health Athletes of the Week, it was announced on Monday (Nov. 11).

For the third time this season, Erin Hederman has been named the Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Monday (Nov. 11). Hederman (Jackson, Miss.) also earned Freshman of the Week honors on October 1st and was named GSC Player and Freshman of the Week, as well as, United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week on October 8th. The former Jackson Academy standout returned to the pitch against West Florida after missing three straight games and score her sixth goal of the season in the 86th minute to help MC cement a 2-0 vicotry. The win clinched a perfect 12-0 record in GSC play for the Lady Choctaws and earned them the #1 seed in this weeks conference tournament. Hederman and the Lady Choctaws open up tournament play on Tuesday when they host rival Delta State at 11:00 a.m. at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. The winner of Tuesday's match advances to the four-team GSC Tournament in Pensacola, Fla.

The Mississippi College women's soccer team continued their record-breaking season by sweeping the Gulf South Conference Postseason Player Awards, it was announced on Tuesday (Nov. 12) following a vote by the league's head coaches.

Mississippi College's Julia Martin was named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in helping lead the volleyball program to a 2-1 record last week.

The Mississippi College women's soccer team won their 15th straight match and opened the Gulf South Conference Tournament with a 3-1 win over Delta State on Tuesday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. The Lady Choctaws (15-1) have now advanced to the semifinals, which open on Friday in Pensacola, Fla. The Lady Statesmen (6-7-4) wrap up a historic campaign with their first-ever tournament appearance.

The Mississippi College men's soccer team advanced to the Gulf South Conference Tournament semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Union on Tuesday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field. The Choctaws (9-1-5) are in the tournament semifinals for the second time in three years, while the Bulldogs (8-8) were in the conference tournament for the first time in school history this season.

The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped a 62-41 non-conference outing against the University of Arkansas at Monticello on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The setback marked the first of the season for the Lady Choctaws.

Senior Drew Croegaert has been named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, it was announced on Thursday (Nov. 14). Croegaert (Lakeland, Tenn.) is on the team for the second straight year, posting a 3.67 grade-point-average in Kinesiology over his four-year career as a Choctaw. Thus far this season, Croegaert has rushed for 142 yards and a touchdown, also catching four balls for 67 yards and a score. Over his career, he has racked up 287 rushing yards and 246 receiving yards with three total touchdowns.

The Mississippi College volleyball team picked up its first win in Livingston, Ala., since 1994 as the Choctaws recorded a season sweep of the University of West Alabama on Tuesday, Nov. 5

The Mississippi College offense had their highest offensive output since 2014 in a 109-72 win over Southeastern Baptist on Tuesday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum. The Choctaws (2-1) set a school record with 15 made three-pointers in the contest and had six players score in double-figures for the first time since 2011.

For the second time this season, Kaylee Foster has been named the Gulf South Conference Women's Soccer Freshman of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday (Nov. 5).

Bazan (Lima, Peru) scored three goals, including two on "Senior Day", in a 2-0 week that saw the Choctaws defeat Auburn Montgomery (2-0) and Montevallo (5-1). The three-year player for the Choctaws now has four goals on the season, all coming in the last four games. He has now scored 14 career goals, and his two goals on Sunday against the Falcons was his first multi-goal game. Bazan have already clinched a home match to open the Gulf South Conference Tournament on November 12th. They will wrap up the regular season this week at Spring Hill (Nov. 7) and West Florida (Nov. 9). Davenport (Widnes, England) scored in both matches on the week, including the game-winner in a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Montevallo on Sunday. She also added an assist in the 7-0 win over Auburn Montgomery on Thursday. On Sunday's "Senior Day", Davenport notched her 28th career goal in the 80th minute, capping a comeback that saw the #5 Lady Choctaws trailing at halftime, 1-0. The win gave MC 13 straight victories, which sets a new school record. The Lady Choctaws clinched the Gulf South Conference regular season championship with the victory over Montevallo, marking the first regular season title in school history. MC will wrap up the regular season at Spring Hill (Nov. 7) and West Florida (Nov. 9) this week. They will enter the GSC Tournament as the #1 seed and host a match on "Super Tuesday" on Tuesday, Nov. 12.

The Mississippi College men's soccer team exploded for a season-high scoring binge in a 5-1 win over Montevallo on "Senior Day" on Sunday afternoon. The match was played at Clinton High School due to heavy rainfall in the Clinton area earlier in the week. The Choctaws improved to 8-1-4 overall and 7-1-2 in Gulf South Conference play, clinching a home match to open the GSC Tournament. The Falcons fell to 6-8-1 with a 4-5 league record. HOW IT HAPPENED - The first 65 minutes of the match were played evenly as the teams were scoreless. - The Choctaws finally broke through in the 66th minute as junior Marco Sellan was taken down in the box and junior Aurele Chemin converted the penalty kick to grab the 1-0 lead. - Sellan added a goal of his own in the 68th minute as he took an assist from senior Owen Connelly and found the top corner of the net to push the advantage to 2-0. - Connelly notched a goal of his own to cap a three-goal barrage of three minutes as his nearly 40-yard shot found the back of the net to give MC a 3-0 lead. - Senior Victor Bazan took over from there, pushing the lead to 4-0 with a penalty kick goal in the 77th minute. - He then capped the MC scoring in the 81st minute with a beautiul back-heel tally past the goalkeeper to give the Choctaws a 5-0 advantage. - The Falcoins would get on the board in the final seconds as they converted a corner kick from Cyprien N'Goma and Luke Garner found the back of the net to give the match its final score. KEY STATS - The Choctaws took 19 shots with 11 coming on goal, while the Falcons took nine shots with four coming on goal. - Connelly led the Choctaws with four shots, while Ruben Carvalho had a team-high four shots for Montevallo. - Senior Keaton Halbert and junior Alejandro Chavarria each played a half in goal for the Choctaws, allowing the one goal with three saves. - Robert Kuta took the loss for the Falcons, making six saves and allowing five goals. KEY STATS - The Lady Choctaws took nine shots with six shots on goal, while Montevallo had five shots with three on net. - Davenport and Stephenson led the way with three shots apiece. - Kayser earned the win in goal for MC, making two saves with one goal allowed. - Annie Mason took the loss in goal for the Falcons, giving up two goals with three saves. The Mississippi College football team jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter, but West Georgia scored 28 unanswered points to pick up the 35-21 victory on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium. The Choctaws fell to 4-4 on the season with a 3-3 Gulf South Conference mark, while the Wolves improved to 6-3 with a 4-2 league record. HOW IT HAPPENED - The Choctaws jumped out to a quick lead as they took advantage of a muffed punt with Detric Hawthorn finding Drew Croegaert for a 28-yard touchdown pass to go ahead 7-0. - MC then recovered another UWG fumble on the next drive as Hawthorn capped off the drive with a three-yard rushing score to push the advantage to 14-0. - The Wolves got on the scoreboard on their next drive as Garrett Bass found John Hurst for a 64-yard touchdown pass to cut the score back to 14-7. - MC extended the lead back out to 21-7 at the end of the first quarter as Jordan Wright rushed in from four yards out after another Wolves' fumble. - The Choctaws would take the 21-7 lead into the half after both teams were scoreless in the second quarter. - The second half was all West Georgia as they outscored the Choctaws 28-0, including putting up 14 points in both quarters. - Bass tossed a pair of touchdown passes in the third quarter, one coming to LaPerion Perry and the other to Hurst. - In the fourth, Eric Swinney rushed in from three yards out and Bass found Hurst for the third time in the game to cap the scoring. Kendall Platt led the Choctaws with double-digit kills as she turned in a team-best 11 on the day. Lexie Laurendine and Levi Lennard each supplied 16 assists. Lexi Richards and Kate Bass each assisted in the defensive efforts with three blocks while Autumn Frost turned in two. Julia Martin recorded a roster-leading 19 digs on the afternoon. The two teams exchanged leads and ties, but the Hawks gained control of the set with a 6-0 run to capture a 20-16 advantage. The Choctaws pulled within 23-20 on a Lauredine kill, but the Blue and White grabbed the following two points for a 25-20 victory and 2-0 lead in the match. - The Navy and Gold grabbed an early lead in the third set as it jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The two teams exchanged lengthy runs during the game and stood tied at 23-23. Laurendine and Platt each registered a kill for the final two points and picked up their first win of the match. - Shorter opened the fourth with a 7-0 run and held its largest lead of the set at 17-8. MC used a 15-6 run to tie the contest at 23-all and grabbed its first lead of the set on a Hawks' attack error. However, SU used back-to-back kills from Lacee Glover and an attack miscue from the Choctaws to pick up the 26-24 win. INSIDE THE BOX - The loss to the Hawks is the ninth in the series. - Platt's double figure-kill effort marked her 14th of the season - which is second-best on the team. - Platt logged her ninth double-double of the season and 16th of her career. - Bundy tied a career-high with two aces on the day. - Richards' solo block marked her fourth of the season.

After Lee picked up its seventh point of the set, the Navy and Gold scored the following 11 points en route to a 25-10 victory and 2-0 lead in the match. - A tighter third set saw the Flames posted a 4-0 run to take a 17-16 lead midway, but the Choctaws answered with a 9-2 run to close out the game, 25-19, and clinch the match. INSIDE THE BOX -The win snapped a seven-match skid for the Choctaws and gave them their first conference win since Oct. 1. - The 10 points in the second set by Lee tied the season-low (Lane; Oct. 3). - Martin moved into second in career digs with 978. She surpassed Amanda Greene (2007-08). - Martin moved into second in career service aces with 91. She passed Amanda Greene (2007-08) and Christy Bevell (1995-97). - Bass' kill total marked the third time this season in double-digits. - Boros' performance marked her 19th match in double figure kills and 34th of her career. - Lennard has double-digit assists in the last five outings and 10 in her debut season.

The Mississippi College volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the Gulf South Conference-Sunshine State Conference Crossover on Friday, Oct. 18. The Choctaws (7-15) fell in four sets to Nova Southeastern to open the day and fell in straight sets to Barry University to close out the night. Sophomore Jamie Boros led MC with 20 kills for the two matches while freshman Lexi Richards added 10 on the day. Lexie Laurendine dished out 26 assists followed by Levi Lennard with 18. Defensively, Brandi Bundy led the team with 21 digs for the two matches while Laurendine and Lennard had 13 and 12 respectively. Richards totaled six blocks over the span of the day while Sloane FitzHenry and Kate Bass each added four.

The Mississippi College volleyball team wrapped up its NCAA Division II South Region Crossover between the Gulf South and Sunshine State Conferences on Saturday, Oct. 19 with a four-sets setback to Saint Leo University at the Finley Center in Hoover, Ala. Jamie Boros and Lexie Laurendine each notched double figure kills in the four sets to the lead the offensive attack. Boros finished with a team-best 17 while Laurendine added 14 kills on the day. Laurendine also added a team-best 17 assists while compiling 10 digs for a triple-double to close out the day. Levi Lennard dished out 15 assists while Julia Martin had a team-high 19 digs. Kate Bass totaled eight blocks in the contest.
