Laguna Social Tribe Recognizes 2022-23 Members

Laguna Social Tribe announces 2022 fall membership. Laguna is a social and service organization that joined the club and tribe system at Mississippi College in 1952. The Hard Places Community serves as the tribe's philanthropic focus. Mississippi College's clubs and tribes system is made up of ten organizations that provide social and service opportunities to students.

Announcing Marching Band 2022 Ensemble

Announcing Choctaw Marching Band 2022 Ensemble The Choctaw Marching Band is directed by Duncan Goff, and consists of many different sounds including the flute, clarinet, saxophone, mellophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, sousaphone, percussion, and the Color Guard. The Marching Band will be performing at various football games and other events through the fall season.

It's a great time to be a Choctaw, The Princeton Review has tapped MC as one of the "Best Southeastern Colleges;" a newly strengthened relationship between MC and the Mississippi Band of Choctaws is flourishing, and the groundwork is being laid for an exciting development on Highway 80 that will enhance the life of MC students, faculty, staff, and the community.

History and Political Science Department Awards Announced at Mississippi College

The Mississippi College Department of History and Political Science announced the 2021-22 academic year award winners. Lexie Daigle (Martha Hudson Social Studies Education Teacher in Training Award): This award is presented each spring to a senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance and promise in the field of Social Studies Education. Sam Hughes (Outstanding Senior in Political Science): This award is presented each spring to a senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance and promise in the field of Political Science. Michaela Cooper (Outstanding Senior in Pre-Law): This award is presented each spring to a senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance and promise in Pre-Law studies Ean Pincus (Outstanding Senior in Paralegal Studies): This award is presented each spring to a senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance and promise in the field of Paralegal Studies. Sapreet Singh (Outstanding Senior in Administration of Justice): This award is presented each spring to a senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance and promise in the field of Administration of Justice Matt Drew (Edward L. McMillan Award for Excellence in History; P.I. Lipsey, Jr. Award): The McMillan Award is presented each spring to a senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance in the discipline of History. The Lipsey Award is presented each spring to a senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance in courses related to European and/or ancient history. Hannah Creel (Outstanding Senior in Pre-Law): This award is presented each spring to a senior who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance and promise in Pre-Law studies. Carson Hughes (Phi Alpha Theta Award): This award is given to a first-year student who has demonstrated excellence in History classes.

The Mississippi College Department of Communication announced the 2021-22 academic year award winners. The Hollis and Julia Todd Scholarship is awarded to sophomore Communication majors. Eight students were selected this year: Savannah Blackwell, Evan Brown, Noah Drewes, Anna Grace Lane, Isabel McConnell, Sydney Shaw, Peyton Torrence, and Gabby White.

The Mississippi College Office of Academic Affairs releases the dean's list after the close of fall and spring semesters each academic year. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must maintain a 3.5 grade point average, based on a 4.0 system. The student must take a full course load of at least 12 semester hours of undergraduate credit with all academic courses impacting their grade point average.

The Jack B. Carmean Memorial Scholarship is a monetary award given annually to a Special Education major who, having completed their junior year, evidences potential for future contribution to the field of Special Education as demonstrated by scholastic achievement, leadership, and campus or community participation.

The Mississippi College Department of Teacher Education and Leadership recently announced the 2021-22 academic year award winners. Jacob Ginn received the Eugene I. Farr Scholarship. An annual monetary award established by the Jackson Field Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa in honor of Dr. Eugene I. Farr, a 1926 graduate of Mississippi College and Professor of Education from 1954 to 1961. Based on scholar- ship, research and leadership, the award is made to one or more men students of the senior class who are preparing for a teaching career.

The Mississippi College Department of Teacher Education and Leadership recently announced the 2021-22 academic year award winners. Kaylee Parks received the J.D. and Bertha McDonald Scholarship. A monetary award, funded by the Marion W. Effie McDonald Perry Foundation for Enriched Scholarships, given to the outstanding student who is planning a career in primary or secondary education. The student is to be selected during the junior year with the award to be used during the senior year.

Leighton Sistrunk received the Kappa Delta Pi Ann Wilson Clark Memorial Scholarship. A monetary award given annually to an Education student who has completed their junior year. This student must demonstrate high moral character and a professional commitment to teaching as recognized by the faculty of the School of Education.

The Mississippi College Department of Teacher Education and Leadership recently announced the 2021-22 academic year award winners. Allie Townsend was named the Glenda Locke White Elementary Education Honor Student of the Year. A monetary award given annually in memory of Glenda Locke White, a first grade elementary teacher and 1966 Mississippi College graduate. This award is given to the elementary education student who rated the highest standard of achievements in student teaching, scholarship, personal qualities, educational ideals and contributions.
