Transfer Students Receive Warm Welcome at Mississippi College
Transfers attending Mississippi College comprise a major chunk of the enrollment at the 5,200-student university. And many of the undergraduates continue to come from nearby Hinds Community College. Leading the wave of 508 transfers to Mississippi College last year were 115 former Hinds CC students. Mississippi's largest two-year school, Hinds operates campuses in Raymond, Utica, Vicksburg, Pearl and Jackson. Opening its doors in 1917, Hinds has served as a strong feeder school to the Baptist-affiliated university for generations.

Summer Mission Trip To Romania Attracts Mississippi College Delegation
ne hundred years after that epic piece of Romanian history, six Mississippi College students and alumni will travel to the European nation on a unified front as summer missionaries. The MC delegation plays a significant role among forty-five people who will minister in orphanages and churches in the western part of Romania. The visitors from Southern churches will lead a Vacation Bible School, minister to children in local villages, host parties for young people and build their faith. Their mission trip is set for June 24-July 4.

Clarence Smith Scholarship Supports Mississippi College Students
Maury City sits 30 miles west of Jackson, Tennessee. The Crockett County community of 674 people (more or less) is the hometown of Mississippi College student Caleb Waddey. A current recipient of the Clarence Smith Sr. scholarship, Waddey says awards like this made it possible for him to attend Mississippi College. It enables him to take classes preparing for a law enforcement career.

Mississippi College Baseball Wins Gulf South Conference
The Mississippi College baseball team won the Gulf South Conference Baseball Championship with a 7-6 win over Lee University on Wednesday, May 9 at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field. The Choctaws earned the automatic berth into the NCAA South Regional May 17-20. The GSC Championship is the first in program history for the Choctaws.

Mississippi College recently held its annual Honors Convocation to recognize students academic and service achievements within the university and community. Hosted by First Baptist Church Clinton, students, parents, and faculty were in attendance to honor the selected students during the university's chapel service. Of those students recognized, 21 students were honored as 4.0 Scholars. In order to be eligible for the listing of 4.0 Scholars, an undergraduate student must have a 4.0 on all work completed at Mississippi College regardless of the number of hours taken at MC.

Mississippi College Announces Winners of the Perry Academic Awards
Mississippi College recently held its annual Honors Convocation to recognize students academic and service achievements within the university and community. Hosted by First Baptist Church Clinton, students, parents, and faculty were in attendance to honor the selected students during the university's chapel service. The Perry Academic Awards were established by Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Perry (Marion Walter Perry, '32 and Effie Elaine McDonald Perry, '33) for the purpose of recognizing scholastic achievement at Mississippi College. Academic Awards, in the form of gold medals, will be awarded to not more than seven seniors per year from the following majors: biological sciences, business administration and business education, including accounting, computer science, and marketing; chemistry; history; English; languages; mathematics; physics; arts and music; medical technology and nursing; education and psychology; kinesiology (formerly family and consumer sciences) and interior design; communication; sociology and social work. Consideration for the awards are with emphasis on academic performance with all nominees having not less than a 3.5 grade point average. Academic excellence will receive 75% consideration and 25% for qualities of leadership, citizenship, creative ability, activities, and moral character.
