Coach Claudia Billups leads a spirited bunch of Lady Choctaws who compete at the highest levels in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. This Fall, MC launches its 13th season with a road show sponsored by Trinity University. The event October 19-20 will be at the Marglin Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas. The TU squad is one of the longest-standing club teams at the school based in San Antonio, Texas.

These students have a chance to travel to countries all over the world and be immersed in a brand-new culture in conjunction to the classes they are enrolled in. Abigail McNeer is studying abroad through MC in South Korea at the Sookmyung Women's University located in the capitol of South Korea, Seoul. This modern university invites males and female from all over the world to participate in classes taught in English by professors from all over the world. This university upholds a motto, "Gentle Power to Change the World."

Kaitlyn Thompson studied in Asia this summer. Thompson traveled to South Korea to take courses at Sookmyung Women's University the capitol of South Korea, Seoul. For the France study abroad program this semester, Miriam Middleton is off adventuring through the Parisian streets and taking classes in the city of Tours. MC students study French at the Institut de Touraine along with other students from all over the world. Students who study in France will spend their time with a host family in Tours.

Isabella Hall, Lily Claire Mann, and Kristina Williams all traveled to Kyoto, Japan this summer as part of the study abroad program. The students studied at one of the most prominent private universities in Japan, Doshisha University. These three ladies received 6 credit hours, 1 PE credit, and 1 chapel credit during their summer program.

There are seven students who are studying abroad all over the world this Fall semester. Robert Mason is studying in London this semester for the CEA (Cultural Experiences Abroad) program. Through this program, students gain internship experience that is an excellent resume boosting experience.

The two-hour event was held on the pedestrian street outside the university cafeteria. Leaders of sports teams, the Student Government Association, clubs, tribes, drama groups and others plugged their organizations. Students learned about campus jobs. There are more than 40 campus organizations, leadership groups and departments represented at the initial event.

When "The Wall Street Journal" recently ranked America's higher education institutions, Mississippi College fared quite well.

One recent event was the admissions office's Junior Day as 80 high school juniors toured the Clinton campus. Working with President Blake Thompson, who launched the group, the first class of MC Ambassadors set a high standard. Inducted in late April, the newest class was selected to be their successors.

Mississippi College Dean Kimberly Sharp spoke at ceremonies to congratulate the new nurses. She says she will continue to keep them in her prayers. Sharp urged the Class of 2019 to continue to keep Christ at the center of their lives as they serve others. A cross, representing Christian caring and commitment, is superimposed on the MC School of Nursing pin. An image of Provine Chapel is imposed in the center of the pin going to the 65 new graduates.

The NFL's all-time passing yards leader, Drew Brees helped Mississippi College supporters achieve a new record to strengthen scholarships. Serving as the keynote speaker at MC's Spring scholarship dinner, the New Orleans Saints quarterback proved to be a big hit on the Clinton campus. Focusing on his life's priorities of faith, family and football, Brees delivered a winning message Tuesday.

Wrapping up another superb season, Mississippi College's table tennis team finished No. 2 in the USA at the 2019 national championships. Facing perennial champ Texas Wesleyan University in the finals in Greensboro, North Carolina, MC fell 3 games to 1 in coed team matches on April 13. The Texas Wesleyan Rams captured four titles: men's (coed) team, women's team, men's doubles and men's singles. Texas Wesleyan has achieved 73 national championships in table tennis since the program started at the private institution in Fort Worth in 2001.

At a Chicago hotel room, Mississippi College professors interviewed a former terrorist who spent ten years in prison. It was quite a remarkable experience. The March session gave researchers with MC's Project Arrowhead important insights to help in the fight against global terrorism.

Aaron Feazelle mastered leadership 101 at Mississippi College. As the MC Choctaws starting quarterback, in business classes, and student government circles, the Gulf Coast resident prospered. New challenges await Feazelle, an MC junior recently elected Student Government Association president on the Clinton campus. The date is April 11 when a newest slate of SGA leaders takes office. It promises to be an interesting year ahead. During his March 29 inauguration, President Blake Thompson announced the creation of an Honors College beginning this Fall. He also unveiled the expansion of the Christian university's international programs. Close bonds with students remain high on Dr. Thompson's agenda. Days before leading SGA, Feazelle, 20, credits God along with his parents, both Hancock High teachers, for helping him achieve success in life. "Outside of the Lord, I credit them for everything I have in this world," Aaron says of his parents, Shawn & Vickie Feazelle. Wonderful friends assisted the business administration major and Writing Center tutor along his journey. The 6' 4" tall Diamondhead resident has a jewel of a friend in outgoing SGA President Anthony Jackson. "Anthony is one of my best friends and definitely had the most influence on me since I've been here," Aaron Feazelle said. "From his actions, words and strong foundation of faith, I have been able to grow into the person I am now." A Mound Bayou resident, Anthony Jackson blazed a path a year ago as Mississippi College's first African-American to serve as SGA president on the Clinton campus. Wearing No. 9 for the Blue & Gold, Aaron Feazelle enjoys building friendships with his student government teammates. He served as chief of staff with the SGA's Executive Council this past year. Running for a seat in the Mississippi House to represent his Delta district, Anthony Jackson has developed a good taste for politics and people. A political science major, Anthony believes the future shines bright for his successor. "The sky's the limit for this kid," Jackson said. "Aaron will exceed whatever expectations are placed upon him," he added. "Aaron's greatest strength will be his ability to relate to the entire student body. He will forever be No. 9 on the field, but No. 1 in our hearts." Sports is very much in his future. Aaron Feazelle wants to pursue an MBA, then earn a sports law degree. He envisions becoming a sports agent in a world where elite professional athletes are signing phenomenal multi-year deals exceeding $400 million. Outside the sports universe, education remains a Feazelle family priority. An older brother attends Mississippi State University and a younger sister is enrolled at Georgetown University. A Hancock High graduate, Aaron seeks to help the SGA Executive Council carry out its mentorship plan in 2019-20. "One goal I have for the student body is to get more voices heard, trying to reach out to more groups and get them involved." Newly elected vice president Damon Wright is eager work with his Gulf Coast friend again. The two student-athletes were teammates under Choctaws football coach John Bland. "Aaron is a phenomenal player and an even better person," said the resident of Hoover, Alabama. "He brings a standard of leadership and high character that will bring SGA together." Others in SGA's new lineup of officers: business manager Issac Davis of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, chief justice Samuel Brown of Rose Hill and Sara Grace Duncan as Christian development coordinator. Tatum Folmar of Laurel will serve as a leader with the Executive Council at the Baptist-affiliated university.

In 2019, Mississippi College audiences will get the opportunity to see MC's Choctaw Chorus present Vivaldi's "Gloria" in a March 31 concert. Sponsored by the MC Department of Music, the program at historic Provine Chapel is free and open to the public. The event on the Clinton campus begins at 3 p.m. that Sunday.

Since arriving July 1, Dr. Thompson demonstrated he's a student-oriented leader on the Clinton campus. So it makes sense that MC students will play a key role during inauguration week activities on the Clinton campus.

Mississippi College leaders say a successful sporting clay shoot attracted nearly $15,000 in donations to benefit the university's team.

About 100 educators and students will attend the Mississippi Writing Center Association's 2019 conference. Writing Center advocates at Hinds Community College in Raymond and Mississippi College in Clinton will partner to sponsor the sessions on their campuses. The dates are March 22-23. The meetings will draw educators and students from colleges statewide.

Networking with hundreds of the nation's most successful accountants always reaps terrific benefits for Mississippi College students. MC senior Nathan Lambert, 20, of Middleburg, Florida is among two students on the Clinton campus to recently attend Association of Government Accountants meetings. The late February sessions in Washington provided numerous opportunities to learn more about the accounting profession and cultivate valuable career relationships.

The Mississippi College Office of Academic Affairs releases the dean's list after the close of fall and spring semesters each academic year. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must maintain a 3.5 grade point average, based on a 4.0 system. The student must take a full course load of at least 12 semester hours of undergraduate credit with all academic courses impacting their grade point average.

Jacob Mahaffey dreams of becoming a lawyer to help Mississippi's elderly and families. Eventually, he wants to own a spacious ranch or farm. A Mississippi College junior, Mahaffey spent his first two years receiving a top-notch education on the Rankin campus of Hinds Community College. The Hinds experience prepared the Puckett resident for academic life at Mississippi's biggest private university. The 21-year-old Puckett High graduate reflects a growing pool of students thriving as Hinds Eagles before becoming MC Choctaws. It's a partnership that began generations ago at the two colleges in Central Mississippi. Recently, MC President Blake Thompson met for lunch in Clinton with Hinds President Clyde Muse to help make the bonds even stronger and discuss other topics. The Hinds president since 1978, Dr. Muse remains a Mississippi higher education icon. The Mississippian frequently visits the Capitol to press for more funding for Mississippi's 15 two-year schools serving nearly 100,000 students. The 44-year-old Dr. Thompson is a newcomer as MC's top leader, a post he's held since July 2018 with his inauguration on the Clinton campus set for March 29. The Rienzi native is familiar with reports showing Hinds is Mississippi College's biggest feeder school. As they enjoyed cheeseburgers at Obie's restaurant and the fellowship time, the two college leaders hope to see more students making a seamless transition. Jake Mahaffey is the type of Hinds grad that's a terrific fit at America's second oldest Baptist college. A member of the Phi Theta Kappa alumni group, a flag football player in intramurals, and member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Pelahatchie, Jacob stays involved in activities away from Mississippi College classrooms. A May 2018 Hinds CC graduate, he's among 84 Hinds transfer students attending Mississippi College in Fall 2018. That's up from 78 former Hinds students in Fall 2017. There were 56 Hinds transfers enrolled at MC in 2015. The transition for Jacob from one college to the next went well. "Hinds helped me greatly. I went to a very small high school in Puckett, Mississippi where I had a graduating class of 58, and we were considered a large class. Going straight to a four-year university would have been a culture shock for me, so I picked Hinds and I'm so glad I did." The Hinds chapter of Phi Theta Kappa along with honor programs on the Pearl campus were positives for Mahaffey. "It placed me around students who were motivated to do good academically which in turn motivated me to do the same." The political science major plans to hit the books in a couple of years at MC Law School in Jackson. Taking a similar path is Chandler Abney, a Puckett High grad. His Hinds experience, says the Florence resident, "prepared me for Mississippi College. And the transition was very smooth." Every one of his Hinds credits transferred to Mississippi College. A 20-year-old public relations major, Abney is due to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree. A few years ago, Hinds and MC school leaders signed a two plus two agreement. The partnership offers a more convenient way for Hinds students to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accelerated pace at Mississippi College. It is geared towards working adults over age 25. The program allows students to earn degrees in business administration, communication and sociology during classes two evenings per week at Mississippi College. Hinds isn't the only two-year school with many alums taking MC classes. In 2016, there were 51 Holmes Community College transfers attending Mississippi College. The 2019 Choctaws football roster includes 27 Mississippi two-year college transfers. They include twins Derric and Detric Hawthorn, MC seniors who transferred from Jones County Junior College.
